Greetings to all,
Indian summer is here, and autumn is knocking at the door, bringing with it another season of apple harvesting and processing — the 2026 season. Starting with this newsletter, our updates will be a little shorter over the next few months, as we will be extremely busy right through to the end of December, partly thanks to the Christmas markets.
On Saturday, or Sunday 20/9/2026 at the latest, we are setting off for one of the largest international events dedicated to cider, SISGA, which takes place in Asturias, in the city of Xixón. This will be our first time attending the event, and our expectations are high. I (František Algoldor Apfelbeck) haven't been to Spain since 1997, so I'm curious to see how the country has changed.
After the event, we will head towards Normandy, where we plan to carry out our first apple harvest between approximately 3–8 October. Then it will be a quick return to the Czech Republic for the markets and the beginning of the Czech apple harvest. This year, just like last year, we will be harvesting apples in both France and the Czech Republic, mainly around Kout na Šumavě. Accommodation is arranged at both locations. There will probably be a considerable shortage of apples in France this year, so we will see how much we manage to "pick up". The harvest in the Czech Republic is also looking somewhat weaker, but there should still be enough for our needs. Volunteer help is welcome at both locations, and we believe that everyone's efforts will be well rewarded. Accommodation and meals will be provided.
The second harvest period in Normandy is scheduled for 1–12 November, and the third for 29 November–5 December. Please note that the final period, extending into December, may not take place. The main harvest will therefore be the one from 1–12 November, when we will particularly need helping hands. Our goal for this season is to produce at least one hundred hectolitres — that is, ten thousand litres — of apple juice, which will subsequently be processed into various products. We would also like to bottle approximately six thousand bottles from different batches, mainly as brut ciders.
Please keep an eye on our website for updates about our activities throughout the autumn season, both commercial and non-commercial.
We look forward to seeing you, hopefully also on some smaller, more intimate occasions.
Greetings from Kout na Šumavě,
for Kvasírna Jara,
